Welcome to the Summer term. We are so glad that the weather is improving and we can now start doing lots of our learning outside.

Our topic this half term is The UK. We will be learning about the different countries that make up the UK.

In English we will be learning about fiction and non-fictions books. We will be writing non-fiction reports. We will also be looking at traditional tales such as Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk.

In maths we will be continuing with our number work. We will also be working on measures, shape, multiplication and division. We have already been making the most of the nice weather and have used our outdoor area to learn about capacity.

Our science topic is Plants we will be planting sunflowers and making observations over time and seeing how they grow.

We are very lucky to have a coach from Fit 4 Fun this term teaching us PE. We will be doing athletics and tennis.

Throughout all this we are, of course, practising and developing our English and Maths skills. We have written our own versions of the story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. We have also learned about the story The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. This term in maths we are focusing on number recognition, number formation, adding, subtracting and odd/even numbers. We are also learning how to count in 2s, 5s, and 10s.  We are practising reading real and alien words.

Further information is available in our Curriculum Booklet on this website or ask one of the Year One team.
