In connection with our topic on World War 2, Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a trip to Duxford Imperial War Museum.  We all had a lovely day and were impressed by the number of exhibits on show.

We saw aircraft that took part in the Battle of Britain, such as the Lancaster bomber and Hurricane fighter plane, and, on the day we visited the airfield, the ground crews were working on an actual WW2 Spitfire, which we were lucky enough to see take-off and fly over the museum.  We experienced an air raid on Duxford from the Operations Room that controlled RAF fighters in the air and on the ground, and saw the large table maps that were used to direct the battle.  The children were also able to get a feel for the weight of equipment that was carried by Allied troops on D-Day, and handle some of the weapons used.
