We have had a busy term and really enjoyed Science Week.  The children all took part in a competition where we made flowers using paper and scissors.  They had to work out how to create petals and stems without using any glue or sticky tape.  The class winner was Vanessa Wloch who used slots, folds and twists to keep her flower together.  Well done Vanessa.  We also investigated natural and man-made materials by exploring our classroom and outdoor learning area. We collected various materials and then used a printing process to showcase them in our classroom.

We also had great fun making parachutes and observed them falling from the staircase with our toy characters. We recognised that the bigger the surface area of the parachute the slower it fell. This was proved when Mrs Mac and Miss Davey made a parachute with a bin bag.  This lesson also provided a stimulus for writing; ‘The day the toy characters landed at St. Albert’s.’

We are looking forward to seeing our learners’ Easter Gardens at the beginning of the Summer Term.

To help with the smooth running of our classroom, and to maximise the children’s learning, please could you make sure they have the following items in school EVERY DAY…

– water bottles

– reading books and diaries (even if you didn’t get a chance to read them)

– full PE kit, including a change of footwear

– a pair of wellies on our boot rack

Please make sure all items are CLEARLY NAMED.  Sometimes the wrong clothes go home with the wrong child. Try to check your children’s clothes as you put them in the wash or iron them, returning any items they have picked up accidentally so we can reunite them with their real owner.

  • Spellings will be given out on a Monday and tested on the following Monday.
  • Children need their PE kits on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • All children need to have a water bottle and sunhat in school.
  • Reading books and reading records must be in school every day.
