Pupil Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
The ‘Pupil Premium’ is direct government funding for schools designed to ensure that all pupils make the best possible progress whilst in school, regardless of their socio-economic background. A sum of money is given to the school for each pupil on role who is currently or who has ever been in receipt of means tested ‘Free School Meals’ (as opposed to the Universal Infant Free School Meals). There is also a small amount of funding given for any pupil with a parent currently serving in the British Armed Forces and for any child ‘looked after’, either in foster care or in Local Authority care.
Pupil premium is not a personal budget for individual pupils and school is not required to spend pupil premium so that it solely benefits pupils who meet the funding criteria.
How do you know if your child is eligible?
Your child may be eligible for pupil premium funding if you or your partner receive one or more of the following:
- Income support
- Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
- An income related employment and support allowance
- Support under the VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit

How do we spend out pupil premium funding?
Our school has developed a pupil premium strategy in line with the guidance outlined in the Using Pupil Premium: Guidance for School Leaders document. This strategy focuses on maximising the impact of funding through evidence-based approaches. The funding is used to implement tailored strategies and interventions that address barriers to learning, enhance educational experiences, and promote equity for all pupils.
We emphasise the importance of aligning our strategy with nationally recommended approaches, prioritising high-quality teaching, targeted academic support, and strategies to address wider challenges such as attendance and social-emotional needs.
For more details, including how this strategy is implemented and monitored, you can view our updated pupil premium strategy document below, which has been prepared in accordance with the latest official guidance.
