Year 3

Governors At St Albert The Great

Welcome to Year 3!

This year, Year 3 will be taught by Miss Bunney and our teaching assistant is Mrs Telling. We are both really looking forward to a fantastic year!

During the first term we will be revisiting a lot of the Year 2 curriculum that we missed out on due to school closure. This will enable the children to jump into the Year 3 curriculum with confidence!

Autumn Term 1

In English this half term the whole school will kick-start the year by writing a narrative based on the book Journey by Aaron Becker. After this we will be focusing on differing books in 2 week blocks. The books we will be looking at are The Paper Bag Princess, Mini Rabbit Not Lost and and an Atlas of Adventures.

As we missed a lot of Year 2, we will continue to do daily phonics this half term. We will also do daily guided reading sessions as well as shared reading at the end of each day. Our class novel this half term is Stig of the Dump – so far, we are loving it!

In Maths we will begin by learning about place value, extending our knowledge of tens and ones and moving on to learning about hundreds. After this we will begin looking at addition and subtraction. We will also be using Times Table Rock Stars as much as possible so that we are super speedy at our times tables.

In RE our topic is Family, Year 3 will be focusing on Homes. Thinking about how we may show a loving heart and caring for others.

In Science our topic is Rocks. We will be learning about different rock types, where rocks come from and Miss Bunney has planned some very exciting practical experiments (one even involves chocolate!).

Our topic this half term is Crazy Cavemen. We will learning all about the Stone Age and thinking about how people lived during this time.

In PSHE, we will be thinking about life has changed since Covid-19 and the emotions we have felt during such a tough time.

Things to remember:

PE is on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit.

Children should come to school with a named water bottle everyday.

Children should bring their reading book and reading record to school everyday and are expected to read at least 3 times a week in order to move up the reading ladder.

This half term Year 3 are doing forest school which is on Monday’s and Tuesday’s.

Usernames and passwords for BugClub and TT Rockstars can be found in your child’s reading record.

Thank you for your support,

Miss Bunney
